Description:
The Central Arkansas Healthcare System (CAVHS) is excited to offer a funded 4th-year Audiology Externship for 2027-2028. This 12-month, full-time (2080 hours), externship has an anticipated start date as early as May 2027.

Our Audiology Clinic has a total staff of 10 Audiologists and 4 Health Technicians. Externs will complete the majority of their training at the North Little Rock and Little Rock clinics, but will have opportunities to rotate through the Hot Springs and Conway CBOCs, as needed.

The Audiology Clinic provides clinical opportunities including: audiologic assessments, hearing aid fittings, vestibular evaluations, auditory evoked potentials, cochlear implants, and telehealth.

Historically, our traineeships have been funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA).  Although we anticipate funding by OAA for these positions, this is at the discretion of OAA, pending budget approval.  Students must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Knowledge and skills consistent with completion of 3 years in a clinical and didactic program of study in an accredited Au.D. program.

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
Hearing tests, hearing aid fittings, counseling, ABRs, VNGs, Posturography, Cochlear Implants, hearing aid troubleshooting, repairs and adjustments, earmold impressions, note writing, etc.

Externs are offered and involved in the same on-site (or virtual) training opportunities available to full-time staff.

Externs will have the opportunity to engage with Speech-Language Pathology, Mental Health Services, and ENT Clinic.

Are there research opportunities? If so what?:
No current research offerings; however, students may certainly participate if opportunities become available.

No
