Description:
The Charles George VAMC Audiology clinic is located in the main hospital and has two out-patient CBOCs. Full range of audiological services including hearing testing, amplification, vestibular testing/treatment, Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM), Auditory Brainstem Response testing & telehealth. The department has 8 Audiologists, 3 health technicians and 3 Speech Language Pathologists.

Asheville has a rich legacy of art, entertainment and restaurants. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains surrounds the city and provides a variety of outdoor activities.

Funding is assigned by the Office of Academic Affairs and may not have been determined by the application deadline. OAA funding is announced nationally at the same time which should allow sites to know funding at approximately the same time. Historically, our site:
We have been approved for OAA funding for a full-time extern.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Complete all academic Audiological coursework required by your university. Know and follow all HIPAA regulations. Be skilled in the basic audiological services such as hearing testing, hearing aid selections and fittings. Be skilled in patient management and medical documentation.

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:

  • Advanced testing skills in vestibular evaluation/treatment and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • Participate in the Progressive Tinnitus Management workshops
  • Independent and complete patient management
  • Telehealth Audiological services
