Description:
The Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic is expecting to take at least one 12 month extern beginning May/June 2024.

Number of externship positions:
1 funded and 1 unfunded

Funding is assigned by the Office of Academic Affairs and may not have been determined by the application deadline. OAA funding is announced nationally at the same time which should allow sites to know funding at approximately the same time. Historically, our site:
This health care system currently has one OAA funded position. Offers will be extended no later than October 23, 2023 with the understanding that funding is not guaranteed until OAA releases official information; typically this occurs in mid-late January.

• Remote hearing aid programming and osseointegrated device evaluation and fitting

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

• Knowledge and skills consistent with completion of 3 years in a clinical and didactic program of study in an accredited AuD program

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:

• Externs are expected to refine their skills throughout the Externship year to allow them to perform as independent providers following their experience

A supervisor will always be available. 100% supervision will be provided in the beginning and then gradually reduced as the student demonstrates proficiency.

Continuing Education opportunities:
During the course of the externship year, students would participate in multiple onsite/virtual manufacturer trainings, be allowed to attend 2 offsite manufacturer trainings, given the opportunity to attend JDVAC, and participate in monthly journal club within the audiology department.

Travel to satellites required?:
Yes. Students will be primarily based out of Northern Colorado VA CBOC, but may be required and/or given the opportunity to travel to the Cheyenne VA to ensure students obtain a well-rounded clinical experience.
