The Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System is excited to host 4th year externs to split time between the West Los Angeles Medical Center, the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center and the Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center. The anticipated start date is June/July 2025. Clinical experiences include: diagnostic evaluations, hearing aid selection and fitting (including FM and assistive devices), electrophysiology (ABR, cVEMP), otoacoustic emissions, vestibular evaluations (including rotary chair and posturography), central auditory processing (CAPD) evaluations, BAHA fittings, Progressive Tinnitus Management, aural rehabilitation and telehealth opportunities with the Oxnard Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Research opportunities are available if interested.

Funding is assigned by the Office of Academic Affairs and may not have been determined by the application deadline. OAA funding is announced nationally at the same time which should allow sites to know funding at approximately the same time. Historically, our site:
has received funding for one extern.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Externs are expected to have mastered adult audiologic evaluations and hearing aid fittings.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
- vestibular evaluations
- Progressive Tinnitus Management
- CAPD evaluations

Two off-site manufacturer funded trainings as well as all staff on-site trainings.

Opportunities for interdisciplinary rotations with ENT, Speech-Language Pathology, Neurology, Neuropsychology, VIST and Physical Therapy, as well as participation in Dementia and Polytrauma committee meetings are included in all externships.
