Description:
The Iowa City VA Health Care System is currently accepting applications for a 4th year Audiology Extern opportunity.
Our service has a staff of 10 Audiologists and 5 Audiology Health Technicians located at the main VA hospital in Iowa City and three CBOCs (Quad Cities, Waterloo and Quincy). We provide comprehensive audiological evaluations, ENT consultations, hearing aid fittings and telehealth services. Iowa City VAHCS is a cochlear implant center and also provides progressive tinnitus management. The selected applicant will participate in all facets of audiology care as well as within interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center.

Funding is assigned by the Office of Academic Affairs and may not have been determined by the application deadline. OAA funding is announced nationally at the same time which should allow sites to know funding at approximately the same time. The Extern is expected to have a solid foundation of audiological clinic knowledge, developing clinic skills in the areas listed above, and an interest in caring for our Nation’s Veterans and the diversity of healthcare needs they exhibit.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
Externs are expected to develop into independent clinicians and to become proficient in the areas listed above. Externs are expected to work with interdisciplinary teams to treat the whole health of each veteran.
