Description:
VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System is accepting applicants for a 4th year extern. The anticipated start date is May/June 2025. This position is located at our Rochester CBOC and may rotate to our Bath and Canandaigua VAMCs.
In addition to performing hearing evaluations and hearing aid fittings/adjustments, the audiology extern will have the opportunity to participate in the following clinical experiences: Vestibular evaluations (VNGs and Posturography); Cochlear implant evaluations, mapping, and telehealth services; Osseointegrated device evaluations and fittings; Progressive Tinnitus Management program; Electrophysiological evaluations;Teleaudiology; Inpatient/CLC bedside cerumen removal and hearing aid repairs.

Funding is assigned by the Office of Academic Affairs and may not have been determined by the application deadline. OAA funding is announced nationally at the same time which should allow sites to know funding at approximately the same time. Historically, our site: is funded for one extern.

Continuing Education opportunities:
Students participate in manufacturer trainings (onsite) and are encouraged to attend off-site manufacturer trainings and national conferences (JDVAC, AAA, state conference, etc.).

Opportunities for interdisciplinary rotations with Physical Therapy (PT) and Neurology for Vestibular Rehabilitation; Mental Health for Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) program; ENT, Speech-Language Pathology, Community Living Center.
