The Sioux Falls VA Medical Center is excited to offer fully funded 4th year externship position for 2025-2026, with an anticipated start date in July 2025.
The externship is 12 months, full time (2080 hours). CCC-A supervised hours will be available. The Audiology department at the Sioux Falls VA is part of a 2 medium complexity medical facility with 5 FT Audiologists, 2 Contract audiologists, 1 Health Technician, and several other support staff. We work with 4 Community Outpatient Clinics (CBOCS) in the SD and Iowa areas. The Specialty Audiologists in our clinic include, 2 Cochlear Implant Audiologists, and 2 Telehealth Audiologists.

Clinical opportunities provided during the externship:
The externship will offer a range of clinical experiences including the following:
- Comprehensive Audiological Evaluations
- Amplification (hearing aid evaluation, fitting using real ear measures, programming, troubleshooting, repairs)
- Cochlear Implants Evaluations/Activations/Programming
- Osseo-Integrated Implants
- TeleAudiology (CVT and AMTAS readings)
- Ototoxic Monitoring
- Hearing Conservation
- Cerumen Management
- Interprofessional Observation Opportunities
- Continuing Education opportunities:
Manufacturer trainings, specialty topic trainings (i.e. cochlear implant).
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Knowledge and skills consistent with completion of 3 years in a clinical program of study in an accredited AuD program.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
Be professional, punctual and exhibit clinical skills using best practices in Audiology. Demonstrate the I.C.A.R.E Core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence. The goal of the externship at our clinic is to develop and prepare students to be ready to enter the workforce as an Audiologist upon graduation.

Externs will participate in onsite trainings and are also approved to travel to 1 manufacturer training per year.

No, but travel to CBOCs can be determined on individual basis.
